Pagan Sex Cult

Welcome. I hardly know what to write and where to begin, so I'll just start in.

Eschatology - we have none. History teaches that teachings about the end of the world are a bad idea, and can be used to justify no end of other bad ideas. We have one belief about eschatology, and that is that if anyone does something because God is about to end the world, that person must believe in a really insane and evil God who would do such a thing.

Life After Death - It may happen, it may not. We don't care. PSC is about living and loving, not about death and reward and punishment. Here is what we believe about death. First, it is good to avoid it for as long as possible. Second, it is good to avoid bringing it about. Third, there is never a religious reason to kill someone else, and if anyone tells you there is then that person is either lying, or expressing a belief in an insane and evil God. Fourth, when you can no longer avoid dying, you should be able to die without regretting too many of the things you did - and, especially, you should be able to die without regretting too many of the things you didn't do.

Creation Story - It's traditional for religions to have a story about how things started because a story about the beginnings of things establishes a context for the meanings of things. Here is ours. Life on earth evolved from earlier life-forms, and continues to evolve. Evolution teaches us that the power of creation is not something that was used once and then locked away or stopped, but suffuses every species in creation and continues for as long as life endures. By virtue of reproduction, each generation of beings begets the next generation, and over time tiny variations bring about new life forms from old. The lucky ones get to do this by fucking, and fucking recombines DNA which makes the whole process of creating new things from old work thousands of times faster. Therefore we pay reverence to the continuing creation annually with a "Big Bang" orgy.

Conversion - hey, it's rude to try to convert people. Don't do it. People will convert or not, as they see fit and for their own reasons. Some people have a real psychological need for an inconsistent, death-obsessed, punishment-oriented or abusive God figure. They'll never convert, and frankly we don't want them to. It would be mean to them to live without having their needs met, and mean to the rest of us if they were to influence our religion to meet their silly and dangerous needs. PSC is, and wishes to remain, one of the fun religions. That said, you can probably attempt conversion without regretting too much if the person in question is at the top of your to-do list and you want to invite them to the Big Bang....

Ordination of Sexual Minorities. Some religions, in deciding who can join the priesthood or ministry, worry about whether someone is male or female, or whether someone is gay or straight or lesbian or bisexual or kinky or vanilla or monogamous or celibate or whatever. In PSC we worry about whether they have a conscience and empathy and can give good advice to people who need good advice. You gotta worry a little bit about anybody who thinks any of that irrelevant crap might be as important than that.

In general, we care deeply about what our members revere or value or honor. We do not care what they believe. This is because we think that religion is about reverence and values and honor, not about beliefs. The role of scientists is to find propositions to believe or disbelieve, and to the extent that belief and fact coincide, there is power in understanding. The role of the Priesthood is to guide people in reverence and care and empathy and honor, and to the extent that people achieve these things they can live wisely and happily and without causing one another pain or injury or shame or dishonor. These roles are different, but both are vital. There is no conflict between science and religion except when one attempts the functions that properly belong to the other.
